JG Sports Media’s latest audio interview guests are local soccer players…Hunter Jones and Mariah Shaw.
In this interview, we talk about the success of St. Mary Catholic Secondary School girls soccer team in recent years, the cancellation of the OFSAA championship in Cobourg, other sports they have played and been teammates for, playing club soccer and moving onto the university level when sports return.
Mariah will be heading to Trent University in Peterborough while Hunter will be going to Laurentian University in Sudbury.
They also share why they loved playing high school sports at St. Mary.
“All my highlights from high school are all from different sporting events,” Hunter said. “For our basketball team, we went to Michigan, soccer we were at OFSAA, badminton we had some pretty crazy games. All my best memories are all surrounding sports and it just makes everything so much better. You get to meet so many more new people and create relationships with the teachers and the coaches. It just makes everything 10-times better and you look forward to going to school.”
Mariah, who was recently named the St. Mary female Graduating Athlete of the Year and received a Justin Williams Scholarship, echoed the sentiment.
“My best memories were waking up for 7 a.m. practices in high school for basketball, for soccer,” she said. “The relationships you make with your teammates and your coaches will last forever.”

NOTE: While we wait for local sports to return following the COVID-19 pandemic, a big part of JG Sports Media’s website content will be audio interviews, like this one.
Guests will include representatives from local sports organizations as well as other notable guests, many who have ties to this area and even some who don’t.
